Just got iphone4, don’t want to be logged on FB all the time, as I no longer have unlimited data. I cannot log out of Facebook. The above posts do not help. When I go to the bottom of the list on the left, I have a logout tab, when I click the tab it takes me to another screen that say you are logged in as Celia, then below there is a continue tab, when I click continue it takes me back into my Facebook? Thee is an option under account settings to delete my Facebook account, but I don’t want to permanently delete my account.
That’s a very interesting question you raise because, as far as I can tell, what actually happens is different to what appears to happen with the Facebook app on your iPhone. What seems to be the case is that the app stays logged in even when it isn’t, tapping your Internet connection even when you think things aren’t doing anything.
As far as I can tell, however, if you log out and leave the app sitting with that “Continue” button, it is actually logged out and not using the ‘net to communicate back with the Facebook servers. Let me show you how I arrive at this conclusion!
First off, when logged in to Facebook on an iPhone or other iOS device, tapping on the menu button on the app brings up a long menu of choices, the last of which is…
You got it, “Log Out”. Seems reasonable to assume that it’ll log you out of Facebook, indeed. And indeed, tapping on it produces the following prompt:
Tap on “Log Out” and… what? What actually happens?
You see this:
But are you really logged out of Facebook so that you aren’t going to be on the network? The answer seems to be yes. I based this on having Facebook friends create messages, comments, likes, etc, that would ordinarily produce notifications on my iPhone, but it didn’t emit a peep. Not a single notification appeared on my iPhone screen.
When I logged back in by tapping “Continue”, however, then it showed me the notification alert, as usual:
From that point forward, Facebook notifications appeared on my screen as you’d expect would be the case. Note that I didn’t tweak the iPhone’s notification settings at all in this situation, just let the Facebook app itself manage things.
Hope that helps you out!
I figured out how to turn off the “Logged in as . . . . Continue?” screen. Go to Settings, scroll down then select the Facebook icon. Then at the bottom of the screen you will see “Allow These Apps to Use Your Account:”, and move the Facebook slider to Off. The next time you log out of Facebook it will keep only the previous user name but the password field will be blank.
If your device is shared then you will want to do the above. But if it is not shared and you have your device passcode protected then you may keep the previous setting for speedier log in.
Hi. You seem to have hit on a lot of what my issues are, except that my son continues to be listed as logged on to his FB on my iPhone, and even after I say this is not him and my email comes up and I log into my own FB … when I post a photo or a comment it still posts only to his page. HELP please! I have tried everything and cannot find a way to remove his logon info from my phone so that when I try and use my FB from my phone it actually goes there. Also, when it says logged on as him, it actually IS STILL LOGGED IN – because if I click on it I am instantly sent to his page – without even asking for a password.
When I log out I want to be logged out. Meaning I don’t want it to be easy for someone to open my facebook app and simply hit continue. This is a privacy issue. I want to my facebook app to be password protected thus the logging out.
I am getting the “Continue” button whenever I merely CLOSE the facebook app. I do not want to have to hit “Continue” each time I want to open FB. I am not taking any steps to actually logout so I am wondering why I am getting the Continue button and I don’t want it!!! Thanks in advance for any help!
